🎤🎓Calenberg gives a lecture on vibration control in the rail sector
As part of the lecture series ‘Public Transport – Infrastructure Planning’, a module within the master’s programme at the Technical University of Braunschweig for various degree programmes, Calenberg gave the 👨🎓👩🎓students an insight into vibration control in the🚉rail sector.
The session covered the fundamentals of how, when constructing a new railway line, adjacent buildings must be protected against vibrations transmitted into the ground by trains; this is achieved by means of an elastomeric layer between the ballastless track and the subgrade🚅.
💻The calculation of stiffness, damping and natural frequencies was explained, as were the challenges posed by mixed operation; for instance, vibration protection must be ensured for both heavy freight trains and light regional trains. Various materials were examined and the advantages of specific profiles for the elastomeric layer were highlighted.
Calenberg would like to express its sincere thanks to lecturer Martin Wogan for this opportunity. 📝The feedback from the students was so positive that a further visit by Calenberg to the Technical University of Braunschweig is planned for subsequent semesters.
